What is Shabba?

Shabba is a silky, powdery deodorant made from a natural mineral (shabba), organic oils (coconut, jojoba...), and organically extracted aromatic oils (musk, oud, jasmine, pomegranate, berry...). This ancient antibacterial blend offers superior odor control and lasting freshness, paired with our organic musk crystals, oils, and fragrances.

FAQ

How do I use misky shabba? Or, how do I apply shabba onto my armpits?

Shabba is applied by taking a generous pinch between your thumb and index fingers, then wiping and massaging the captured amount onto your armpits generously.

It's natural for some of the powder to fall over your body or clothes. When that happens, simply massage the shabba on your hands, body, or clothes. It smells heavenly anywhere; no amount of powder should go to waste.

Is Shabba a deodorant or an antiperspirant?

There are two types of odor removers: antiperspirants and deodorants.

Antiperspirants: Control sweating and odor by forming an insulating layer over sweat glands with aluminum salts.

Deodorants: Control the smell of sweat with antimicrobial properties without stopping the sweating process.

MiskyShabba is a deodorant. It removes unpleasant odors without preventing sweating, allowing the body to naturally expel sweat. We do not recommend antiperspirants as they can trap sweat and potentially cause serious side effects.

Is potassium alum the same thing as aluminum?

Due to the similarity in their names, alum and aluminum are often confused.

The alum used as a deodorant is potassium aluminum sulfate. It contains a small percentage of aluminum that is not absorbed through the skin, posing no health threat.

Antiperspirants contain aluminum chloral hydrate, which blocks pores and traps sweat, potentially causing health concerns.

Shabba does not trap sweat and allows sweat to exit naturally through pores.

Alum has a long history of safe use as a deodorizer, preventing odor-causing bacteria without clogging pores.

Could Shabba cause rash or any type of a skin irritation issues?

For best results, miskyShabba should be applied to clean, dry skin. It’s safe to reapply throughout the day as long as the skin is dry. If you have a rash or minor cuts, do avoid using it until the skin has fully healed to prevent irritation.

Do misk and musk refer to the same thing?

In the context of our Shabba, yes! Misk, written in Arabic as مِسك, is musk in English; both refer to the musk crystals, the oil essences and the misky fragrances.

Are there any chemicals added in our shabba?

Absolutely not! Other than the potassium alum that works as an astringent by contracting the sweat ducts which only reduces the amount of sweat, we only add organic oils and essences, primarily musky in nature. These give the powder its silky, smooth texture.

Why isn’t my Shabba exactly the same as the last time I bought it?

While the Shabba crystals, misk ambrette, organic cooling oils I use and the process of making the misky shabba mix are highly consistent, the fragrance oil extracts can vary slightly from batch to batch. These extracts are seasonal and depend on when and where I source the oils. For example, jasmine extracted in Derna, Libya, may have a different scent profile than jasmine from Tunis or elsewhere in the Middle East. As a result, you might notice subtle variations in the fragrance from one purchase to another. However, rest assured that you’ll still experience the same captivating scents—whether it’s jasmine, pomegranate, or cactus—each time you enjoy our Shabba.

More importantly, the core formula remains the same, ensuring that each batch provides the same powerful repellant properties to keep your armpits dry and smelling fresh, no matter the scent variation.
